Moreover, in the 2002 revision of the Japan Industrial Classification, eating and drinking places became a separate division  from wholesale and retail trade, so that the description "excluding eating and drinking places" was removed from the regulations governing the statutory scope of the census. 

The census was not conducted in Miyake-mura, Tokyo Prefecture, due to volcanic activity.
