総務省の設立に伴い、総務省統計局の所管となる。
これまでと同形式の調査票Aのほか、生活時間の詳細な結果を得る目的の調査票Bによる調査も行われるようになった。
標本は調査票Aによるものが約7万3千世帯、調査票Bによるものは約4千世帯が抽出された。

With the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the survey was placed under the jurisdiction of the Statistics Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
In addition to Questionnaire A, which is identical to previous questionnaires for the survey, a Questionnaire B with the aim of obtaining more detailed results on activities was introduced.
About 73,000 households were sampled for Questionnaire A and about 40,000 households were sampled for Questionnaire B.

(2) Self-Defense Forces personnel living in barracks or on vessels
(3) Persons in prisons and detention centers whose sentence has been confirmed, persons in youth detention centers and women's reformatories
(4) Persons living in social welfare facilities
(5) Inpatients of hospitals or clinics
